Serving the Glen Abbey community
Glen Abbey is one of Oakville's most established planned communities, developed in the 1970s and 1980s around the Glen Abbey Golf Club — the iconic course that hosted the RBC Canadian Open for decades and remains one of the most recognized golf facilities in Canada. The neighbourhood is defined by its mature tree-lined streets, well-maintained parks, and strong family-oriented character. Active living is a defining feature of community life here: youth sports leagues, the trail network along Sixteen Mile Creek, and the golf facilities that anchor the neighbourhood draw residents of all ages outdoors throughout the year.
The golf community at Glen Abbey's core also means the area sees a higher-than-average incidence of golf-related musculoskeletal conditions — rotator cuff strain, golfer's elbow, lower back pain associated with repetitive rotation, and hip conditions are among the most common presentations we see from this community. Youth sport injuries are equally common, with soccer, hockey, and baseball all well-represented in the neighbourhood's recreational leagues.
Glen Abbey also has a substantial population of longer-term residents and retirees who are committed to remaining active and mobile. RCP Health is approximately 8 minutes from Glen Abbey — south on Third Line to the QEW, or directly via Dorval Drive. Whether you're managing a golf-related shoulder injury, supporting your child's return to sport, or seeking physiotherapy to maintain your independence as you age, our registered team delivers evidence-based, one-on-one care close to your community.
First Visit
What to Expect at Your First Physiotherapy Assessment
60 minutes, one-on-one with a registered physiotherapist (no assistants).
The exact assessment techniques and tests used will vary based on your specific condition, history, and presentation — this is a general guide to what your first visit typically involves.
What we'll do
- A detailed conversation about your injury — when it happened, what caused it, and how it's affecting you now
- A targeted clinical assessment including joint range of motion, strength testing, and sport-specific or functional movement analysis relevant to your condition and goals
- A functional movement assessment to see how the injury is affecting your walking, lifting, or sport-specific movements
- A clear explanation of your diagnosis, grade of injury, and a review of any imaging you've had
- A rehabilitation plan tailored to your goals, with realistic timelines for return to work, sport, or daily activity
- Your first treatment — typically hands-on manual therapy and the initial exercises to start your recovery
- A home exercise programme you can do between visits, demonstrated in-clinic with written instructions to take home
What to bring
- Comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the injured area
- Any imaging reports you have — X-ray, MRI, or ultrasound
- Your insurance details if you'd like us to direct bill
- A list of any current medications
What to expect after
- Some mild soreness in the day or two after your first session is normal — it usually settles quickly
- You'll leave with a clear understanding of your recovery timeline and the next steps
- Direct contact with your physiotherapist between sessions if you have questions or concerns
