Sports Injury Physiotherapy Program
A structured, sport-specific rehabilitation program for hockey, basketball, soccer, golf, baseball, tennis, running, and skiing injuries — built around a clear path from pain to full return to play.
What Is the Sports Injury Physiotherapy Program?
A structured rehabilitation pathway — from initial injury assessment through to sport-specific conditioning and a confident return to play.
Sports injuries range from acute trauma — a rolled ankle, a torn ligament — to overuse injuries that build gradually from repetitive stress, like tennis elbow or shin splints. This program builds on our general sports injury physiotherapy service with a structured, milestone-based path — ideal once you're dealing with a significant injury, or want objective return-to-play clearance rather than open-ended sessions.
Our physiotherapists assess your biomechanics, movement patterns, and sport-specific demands to build a program tailored to you — not a generic protocol. No referral required. Direct billing available.
Injuries by Sport
Every sport loads the body differently. Here's what we most commonly treat, sport by sport.
Hockey
Groin & hip strains from the skating stride, shoulder AC joint separations, rotator cuff injuries, knee ligament tears, concussion.
Basketball
ACL tears from pivoting and landing, ankle sprains (the most common basketball injury), patellofemoral pain, jumper's knee.
Soccer
ACL and MCL tears, groin strains, ankle sprains, hamstring strains from sprinting and sudden direction changes.
Golf
Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis) from repetitive swing mechanics, low back pain and rotational strain, sciatica.
Baseball
Rotator cuff injuries and shoulder impingement from overhead throwing, elbow overuse injuries, especially for pitchers.
Tennis
Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), shoulder rotator cuff strain from serving, wrist strain.
Running
Shin splints, IT band syndrome, patellofemoral pain (runner's knee), Achilles tendonitis, stress fractures.
Skiing & Snowboarding
ACL tears, wrist fractures and sprains, shoulder dislocations, skier's thumb.
The Five-Phase Program
Acute → Sub-Acute → Strength → Sport-Specific → Return to Play. Every phase has its own goals and milestones — pace varies by injury and sport, but the structure stays the same.
Acute Phase
Managing pain and swelling with manual therapy and modalities while protecting the injury, and starting safe, pain-free movement as early as appropriate.
Sub-Acute Phase
Restoring full range of motion and beginning progressive loading as the tissue's healing stage allows.
Strength Phase
Progressive resistance training and neuromuscular re-education to rebuild capacity to — and beyond — your pre-injury baseline.
Sport-Specific Phase
Drills that mirror your sport's actual demands — cutting, jumping, throwing, or skating — under supervision.
Return-to-Play Phase
Objective testing before clearance, plus an injury-prevention screen to reduce your risk of re-injury once you're back.

Cleared to Play — Not Just "Feeling Better"
"It doesn't hurt anymore" isn't the same as "ready for sport." Before clearing you to return, we use objective testing to confirm your injured side is actually performing at the level your sport demands.
Compares distance and control between injured and uninjured legs — a key marker before returning to cutting or jumping sports.
Assesses dynamic balance and reach in multiple directions, identifying asymmetries linked to injury risk.
Compares strength and function between limbs — typically 90%+ symmetry is a benchmark before clearing return to sport.
A structured screen of fundamental movement patterns used to flag imbalances before they become injuries.
