About the Service

What is Therapeutic Massage?

Therapeutic massage is a clinically focused form of massage therapy delivered by Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) — regulated healthcare professionals trained in anatomy, pathology, and soft tissue treatment. Unlike relaxation massage, therapeutic massage targets specific musculoskeletal and neurological conditions with measurable treatment outcomes.

At RCP Health Oakville, our RMTs assess your condition before every session and apply evidence-based techniques including deep tissue work, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, joint mobilisation, and neuromuscular techniques — individually tailored to your needs.

Therapeutic massage is integrated with our physiotherapy and chiropractic services, making RCP Health a comprehensive destination for musculoskeletal care in Oakville.

Therapeutic massage at RCP Health is not a luxury — it is clinical treatment delivered by registered professionals with a defined treatment plan and measurable goals.

Conditions Treated

What Massage Therapy Treats

Therapeutic massage effectively treats acute and chronic conditions. Our RMTs work alongside physiotherapists and chiropractors to deliver integrated care for the following conditions.

Our Approach

Therapeutic Massage Techniques

Our registered massage therapists are trained in a range of clinical techniques. Your session is structured based on your assessment findings — not a fixed routine.

Deep Tissue Massage

All session lengths

Targets deep layers of muscle and connective tissue using sustained pressure and slow strokes. Effective for chronic muscle tension, postural dysfunction, and repetitive strain injuries.

Chronic Pain Muscle Tension Posture

Trigger Point Therapy

45 · 60 · 90 minutes

Applies focused pressure to hyperirritable muscle knots (trigger points) that refer pain to other areas. Highly effective for headaches, neck pain, and shoulder dysfunction.

Headaches Neck Pain Referred Pain

Myofascial Release

60 · 90 minutes

Sustained, gentle pressure applied to fascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Used for fibromyalgia, chronic back pain, and restricted movement patterns. See also: Myofascial Release Therapy.

Fibromyalgia Back Pain Mobility

Sports Massage

45 · 60 · 90 minutes

Designed for athletes and active individuals. Combines deep tissue, stretching, and joint mobilisation to accelerate recovery, prevent injury, and optimise performance before or after competition.

Athletes Recovery Performance

Prenatal Massage

60 · 90 minutes

Safe, specialised massage for pregnant patients to relieve back pain, hip pain, leg cramps, and swelling. Coordinated with our prenatal physiotherapy team for comprehensive maternal care.

Pregnancy Back Pain Swelling

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

60 · 90 minutes

Gentle, rhythmic strokes that stimulate lymphatic flow to reduce swelling, support immune function, and manage lymphedema. Used post-surgically and for cancer rehabilitation patients.

Your First Visit

What to Expect

Every session at RCP Health begins with a clinical assessment — not a rushed intake form. Your registered massage therapist will understand your goals before treatment begins.

Health History & Assessment

Your RMT will review your health history, medications, and current concerns. A postural and range-of-motion assessment identifies areas of dysfunction and informs the treatment plan.

Personalised Treatment Plan

Based on your assessment, your RMT structures the session to address your specific goals — whether that is pain relief, injury recovery, relaxation, or performance support.

Therapeutic Treatment

Your RMT applies the appropriate techniques for your session — deep tissue, trigger point, myofascial release, lymphatic drainage, or a combination — adjusting pressure and focus based on your feedback throughout.

Post-Treatment Guidance

After your session, your RMT provides home care recommendations — stretches, hydration, and activity guidance. Benefits are cumulative; your RMT will discuss a follow-up plan to achieve lasting results.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral for massage therapy?

No referral is required. You can book directly with our registered massage therapists at RCP Health Oakville — online or by calling 1-888-332-7372.

Does my insurance cover massage therapy?

Most extended health plans in Ontario include massage therapy coverage. RCP Health offers direct billing to Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield and most other major providers. If you are unsure about your coverage, call us at 1-888-332-7372 and we will check for you.

What is the difference between a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) and a general massage therapist?

In Ontario, Registered Massage Therapists are regulated healthcare professionals governed by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). They complete a minimum 2,200 hours of education including anatomy, pathology, and clinical assessment. Only RMT sessions qualify for insurance reimbursement. All massage therapists at RCP Health are registered with the CMTO.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends on your condition and goals. Acute injuries may resolve in 3–6 sessions, while chronic conditions benefit from a longer treatment plan. The benefits of massage therapy are cumulative — your RMT will recommend a personalised plan after your first assessment.

Can massage therapy be combined with physiotherapy or chiropractic care?

Yes — this is one of the key advantages of RCP Health. Our RMTs work alongside physiotherapists and chiropractors to deliver coordinated care. Many patients benefit from combined treatment for conditions like chronic back pain, sports injuries, and post-surgical rehabilitation.

Is massage therapy safe during pregnancy?

Yes. Our RMTs are trained in prenatal massage techniques that are safe throughout pregnancy. We use positioning aids and specialised techniques to address back pain, hip discomfort, leg cramps, and swelling. Always inform your therapist that you are pregnant when booking.
